Mrs. Simmons, an 84-year-old widow, is brought to the office by her daughter, Mary. She is a retired office worker and has 2 children, a son Stephen who lives out of state and her daughter. Mary claims that her mother seems to be depressed. There is a history of depression approximately 5 years ago, shortly after Mrs. Simmons's husband died. At that time, she was successfully treated with antidepressants. Currently, the daughter states that her mother's memory for appointments and events has declined severely, and she seldom drives because she does not seem interested in shopping or going out like.
