Two patients are admitted on the unit at almost the same time, both with electrolyte imbalance. Jamie is a 19-year-old female with average weight, callouses on her hands, and a history of shoplifting. She is impulsive and appears a little anxious. Lisa is a 20-year-old female who is underweight, reports losing 18 pounds in the last month, and she is very pale. A new nurse asks you what the diagnosis is for each of the patients being admitted. You advise that one patient is suffering from bulimia and the other is suffering from anorexia.

1. Identify which patient is suffering from anorexia and which is suffering from bulimia.

2. Discuss the presentation of signs/symptoms of both anorexia and bulimia.

3. Explain at least two nursing interventions for a person with an eating disorder. Include what eating disorder the intervention is appropriate for and why.
