Instructions on Investment Project
Stock-Trak Presentation
The presentation will summarize each group's trading over the 9 weeks with slides that describe (or outline) the following:
o Your portfolio objectives and constraints
o Your investment Strategies
You may try both long-buying and short-selling positions in your investment strategies.
You should complete at least 30 different trades to experiment/demonstrate different trading strategies.
o Performance Evaluation
Present your investment portfolio performance against market benchmark (e.g., using "Graph My Portfolio" in StockTrak simulation).
o Worst trade
o Best trade
o Most important insight gained from Stock-Trak
Final Stock-Trak Report
Your final report should contain three main sections:
1) Returns analysis
Which three securities were your biggest winners? Which three were your biggest losers?
Measure winners and losers in percent, not dollars. What were the firm-, industry- or marketrelated events that led to the extreme performance of these six stocks? Be specific.
You may include print or Internet articles that support your analysis in your appendix.
Major corporate events and information for equity trading strategies may include the followings: earnings announcements, equity/debt offering announcements, dividends announcements, corporate restructuring, mergers & acquisitions (M&As), CEO turnover, and other corporate events that may affect firm value and performance.
2) Risk analysis
Evaluate the performance of your investment strategies based on performance criteria Including (i) Sharpe ratio, (ii) Alpha, (iii) Beta, and other relevant measures.
3) Conclusions
In the concluding section, discuss all of the following:
(i) Key findings of your simulation and report; and
(ii) Major lessons and learning outcomes from this simulation game and project (such as new knowledge, ideas/concepts, implications, etc.) and important skills you have acquired from this assignment and investment simulation.
Your report should have the following format:
(1) Cover page: course #, group #, team member names [signed by each member];
(2) Executive Summary: A [one page] separate, independent page;
(3) The report: 1.5 spacing, no tables, no graphs, and no longer than 6 pages; and
(4) Appendix: you may include any technical notes, graphs, tables, spreadsheets, etc.
