1.What do you think about using technology not to avoid genetic disorders but to preselect a child's characteristics? An American fertility doctor advertised that he could ensure babies with blond hair and blue eyes until the criticism of his professional peers silenced him. It is rumored that a Chinese company has gathered genetic samples from 2000 of the most intelligent people in the world to see if there is a genetic pattern associated with high intelligence that could be duplicated. Should we go down the road of engineering our species? Why or why not?
2.There have been numerous local, state, and case laws that have established or expanded the definition of protected classes to include sexual orientation. Look up a recent change in law or policy (within the last five years) related to sexual orientation. This might relate to employment, family law, etc. Provide a link to the information and briefly summarize the change.
3.Select a fictional book, full-length movie, or series that depicts an issue related to any of the sexuality topics in this course. (For example, there are numerous shows, both older and contemporary, that depict men and women in traditional gender roles.)
Include title, year, (and author or producer/director, as applicable).
Include a brief (one paragraph) plot or description of the selection.
Then, critically analyze based on current research, Depending upon the themes of your selection, you might discuss whether or not the depiction is realistic or consistent with trends in sexuality and research findings. Does it perpetuate sexuality myths, minimize risks of contracting STIs,,etc? Or does it depict these things more accurately in the context of the time frame of the work? Does the work create more questions for further study? Include specific examples to support your points and cite any research studies consulted. Your discussion will vary considerably, depending on the fictional work you select. (Minimum 2 pages, double-spaced) Cite the book/movie/series in APA format. If you use additional sources in your response (not required), cite them, also.
