JOB EVALUATION #1: JOB RANKING METHOD 

Instructions:

  1. Read and consider each job's title & description for a Manufacturing company 
  2. Rank the jobs in the order that you believe best represent their relative worth to the organization. Most valuable to least valuable. 
  3. Discuss the PROS & CONS of the RANKING METHOD of job evaluation

Director of Operations

  • responsible for everything from negotiations, budgeting, and purchasing. They're especially skilled at developing long-term operational strategies, working closely with senior management to meet company objectives.

Production Worker 

  • A production worker cleans and operates factory equipment, works on an assembly line, puts together and inspects products, and adheres to all factory safety standards.

Administrative Assistant 

  • Responsibilities include making travel and meeting arrangements, preparing reports and maintaining appropriate filing systems. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to organize their work using tools, like MS Excel

Production Manager 

  • Production managers oversee the day-to-day operations at manufacturing plants. They ensure that production stays on schedule, they hire and manage workers, and they fix any production problems. 

Shift Supervisor

  • A shift supervisor assigns tasks to subordinate employees, makes sure that all operations run smoothly, and reports to middle or upper management with any issues

Accountant 

  • Prepares asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information. Documents financial transactions by entering account information. Recommends financial actions by analyzing accounting options.

Quality Control Inspector 

  • Quality control inspectors examine materials and products for any hazards, defects, or deviations. Required to use technical equipment and computer programs to inspect products

CEO 

  • primary responsibilities include making major corporate decisions, managing the overall operations and resources of a company, acting as the main point of communication between the board of directors (the board) and corporate

IT Technician

  • an IT expert responsible for installing and maintaining computer systems and networks in order to achieve the highest functionality and optimize the role of technology.

Janitor 

  • Cleans and provides upkeep for spaces and buildings, performs basic repairs, maintains cleaning supplies, operates cleaning equipment.

Instructions: Evaluate the same above jobs using the classification/grading method of job evaluation. You must use 4 pay grades.

First you must determine the factors for comparison (i.e. compensable factors). Then you must create the pay grade definition - the LEVEL of those compensable factors for that given pay grade. Finally, slot the jobs into the appropriate pay grade. (any amount of jobs in a given pay grade is ok)
