Case Study
Rationale of the Case Study:
- Case Study will allow the students to understand real world problems. Case studies expose students to a wide range of industries, organizations, functions and responsibility levels. This provides students the flexibility and confidence to deal with a variety of tasks and responsibilities in their careers.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
- Prepare Test environment for mail server.
- Analyse various mail server Administration scenarios.
Task 1:
Submit a work proposal for this assignment on or before 28th October 2019, which must include:
- Understanding of deliverables - a detail description of deliverables
- General overview of proposed plan - initial understanding and solution
- Resources identified
- Time schedule
Task 2:
Emails are critical communication tools for all businesses regardless the size of the company or its processes and functions. It is not only used to connect clients but to coordinate and facilitate the business functions.
Nowadays, there are a variety in the communication/ emails systems where they fall under two categories
i.e. Open source email systems and closed source email systems. Open Source mail systems are designed to provide email services and features to the clients in a license-free environment where they could be run on different platforms with different companies' requirements. Similarly, closed source email systems are designed to provide similar features but in closed or licensed environment.
Microsoft Exchange server is one example of closed source mail system which considered as the most popular system for most of the organizations. On the other hand, Zimbra for example, is an open source email system which provides different services to the users in an open-source-based solution.
However, selection of the right email server will be heavily influenced by technical and functional requirements of the organization. It includes for example: the platform requirements, the security needs of the company, scalability requirements, etc.
Question:
Write a detailed report about the different mail communication systems. The report should include a comparison between the closed source mail systems and open source mail systems in terms of different aspects like security, scalability, etc. It should provide pros and cons of each type. The report also should give an example on which scenario we can use each of the mail systems. Note: The Task 2 report should not be more than 5,000 words.

Task 3:
A company XYZ is planning to have its email server but it doesn't have enough human capabilities to maintain the email systems locally within the organizations. The company staff are mobile users who are not always available on their desks. The company requires their staff to collaborate in real-time. The company is not concerned with the cost and is ready to go for closed source email system.
Given the above scenario and the company needs, compare and contrast between Exchange Server 2016 and Office 365 mail services by stating the pros and cons of each one. Give one example of the cases and the context of when to use each of them. The answer should also include best practices while deploying Exchange Server 2016 and Office 365 mail services.
