Help Human Resources..Description Your assignment is to write a brief research paper/report on an HR topic of interest to you. Please follow the two-part process outlined below. To complete this assignment, you will need to produce a brief research paper proposal and receive approval on your topic choice from your instructor before you start your research. Some ideas for your paper are found at the end of this assignment page but note that this is not a list of sample topics—merely a springboard from which to generate ideas. Use the list as a brainstorming device, from which you can generate your own topic. Process A) The Research Paper The proposal is due before the mid term and your instructor will approve your topic by the end of Week Create your proposal by answering the following four questions. Your proposal should be between a third and half a page - it's short! Please make sure you follow this format when submitting your proposal to me. 1. Identify your proposed research topic. What subject area will you investigate? 2. Identify your audience. To whom you will be presenting this paper or report and what their interest is. For the purposes of the assignment and depending on your chosen topic, the easiest thing is to choose to present either to an HR Conference; the Executive Group of a company or imagine you are the HR person/group and are presenting to employees of the company. 3. Identify the WIIFM (What’s In It For Me) Factor. Why did you choose this topic? - This will help you stay motivated as you research this paper. For instance, is this an area you realize you know little about? Or is this a topic that has a variety of viewpoints and you’d like to come to an informed opinion about it? Or is this something that is currently needed at work and you will use this opportunity to get it done? 4. Indicate how you will research the project (i.e., text, web sources, interviews, etc). Specific texts, people or websites are not needed, just an indication of how you want to research your work. This gives an idea of scope and will allow me to help you narrow or broaden your scope if necessary. **Please make sure that you follow the above template for your topic proposal submissions** B) Research your topic well drawing from at least 5 sources but no more than 10 Length of paper: A maximum of 10 pages (single-spaced) long, not including your title page, table of contents, references and appendices (if used). Use Arial 12-point font throughout the paper – don’t change the size of the font for headings; don’t use italics, different type colors or bold within the text; insert page numbers in either your header or footer . Depending on your topic, charts or graphs may be used and are best put in the appendices (with citations of course). Headings for your topics are useful as they help the reader focus their thoughts – headings may be underlined or bold . Please cite all your sources (including anyone you interviewed) using APA. The format for your paper should be: title page with the topic, your name and date table of contents the content of your paper: at minimum this could contain introduction, discussion, conclusion (or recommendation, depending on your subject matter). Most students use headings for subjects within the discussion section, so you could delete the word "discussion" and insert the headings. references, appendices (if used) Example Topics for HR Research Paper/Report This is not meant to be a list from which to choose a topic, but rather as a springboard for your brainstorming. It’s so much easier to write a paper on a topic you are interested in – that should be the main focus for you when you choose your topic. Designing/Analyzing Jobs Review current job descriptions and update them (this may be suitable if your current job descriptions are outdated, or if you know this is something that needs to be done) Human Resources Planning Evaluate available vendor HRIS systems and prepare recommendations for your organization Succession planning for your organization Recruitment/Selection Expand on the discussion forum ideas in Week 5 and audit your organization's practice, with a view to providing recommendations to improve these practices. Training, Development, Performance Appraisal Choose a training gap and design a training course (this may be suitable if you know this needs to be done) Prepare a training guide to help supervisors provide effective performance appraisals Total Rewards Research effective recognition programs Prepare a report on effective non-financial rewards that could be used by supervisors.
