Prepare a presentation suitable to use for the induction. The presentation must outline the following:
a) The legal obligations of an employee / employer in relation to WHS, including the WHS Act and regulations, and any codes of practice or standards that apply to your workplace; also explain:
Where to find workplace WHS policies and procedures
Organisational expectations of the employee in relation to safe work practices, including PPE
Training and knowledge updates, including information relevant to WHS and safe work practices
Who their workplace mentor will be and that person's role in helping the new employee to work safely
b) What is meant by hazard, risk and residual risk; explain:
The main hazards and risks in your workplace and / or the person's work area
Commonly used safety signs
c) How to contribute to workplace WHS processes:
Health and safety representative and committee responsibilities
How to raise WHS issues
The procedure to follow when assessing, identifying and reporting hazards and risks in their work area
Participating in workplace inspections, using checklists and carrying out risk assessments
Contributing to control measures
d) What to do in an emergency
e) How to manage stress
You are not required to actually make the presentation, but just to submit the written version of your speech. You may attach any appropriate workplace documents or other supporting handouts that would be used to supplement your presentation.
