Case Study Assignment: In this assignment you will be required to demonstrate your knowledge and skills related to LO3 through your responses to the questions pertaining to a case-based scenario.
Read the case scenario and then respond to the questions on the next page.
Your cousin Janine sent you a message after work today, which read, "I don't know if I can do this anymore. This sucks and I am hating my life right now."
You responded by asking if she would like to meet to chat. She said yes and you decided to meet at her house. You have known Janine for her whole life. Usually, Janine is positive and enjoys life. Specifically, Janine enjoys art, music, singing, and dancing. She doesn't enjoy socializing in large groups and prefers to spend time with people one-on-one. However, she has not been asking you to spend time together like she normally does and you know she has been missing classes and not getting her schoolwork done.
When you arrived at her house, Janine told you that she was feeling extremely stressed. She is concerned that she is going to fail one of her courses. She knows that missing class is part of the problem as her instructor communicated attendance as an expectation on the first day of class. She does not feel that she can attend more classes because she has shifts for her work during class time and she is trying to repay her family for paying for her school tuition. However, she stated that if she fails her class, the money will be lost anyway.
You are also aware that Janine has been spending significant time and energy trying to help her roommate Jimmy with his schoolwork, as he is having difficulty communicating in English.
Janine told you she has started smoking and drinking alcohol to cope with the anxiety she feels. She even said that she is unable to fall asleep at night due to these pressures.
Despite the pressure, Janine was feeling positive about her life until she found herself in the midst of an academic misconduct violation. At the beginning of the semester, one of her instructors made clear to the class that using AI tools as a research tool was acceptable, but using the content generated by AI in her submissions was not acceptable.
However, as the semester went on and the pressure mounted, Janine submitted an assignment with portions that were copied and pasted directly from an AI-generator. The instructor identified it and asked Janine to come to her office after class.
To make the situation worse, the submission was part of a group assignment, and her group members are angry with her because they are afraid of losing marks for her poor decision.
Even before this academic misconduct issue, Janine's group members were unhappy with her lack of contributions to the project.
Respond to all questions on the following page.
Ensure responses are based on the information in the case and the content discussed in class.
