Aim of this Assignment:

The aim of this assessment is to assist in the understanding and application of the theory provided in construction planning and scheduling. This assignment is an individual assessment that consolidates the learning from the lectures, tutorials and exercises undertaken in class.

Objectives

To initiate, prepare and develop a project time plan using contemporary project scheduling techniques. The means by which this assessment can be completed is through the application of the following elements:

Activity Definition;
Activity Sequencing;
Activity Duration Estimating;
Diagramming Techniques; and
Application of these techniques by means of proprietary scheduling software.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge of the schedule development process;
Ability to develop your own basic schedules; and
An introduction to computer scheduling techniques

Report Structure:

1. An Executive Summary

2. Introduction (presenting the chosen construction project)

3. Brief scope of the project (deadlines, budgets, constraints, assumptions, etc.)

4. A detailed description on how the schedule is to be managed, monitored, controlled and reported (not to exceed 500 words)

5. A Schedule submitted in *.mpp format (Project 2010 or earlier) consisting of:

i. Work Breakdown Structure;

ii. List of any constraints and assumptions made;

iii. Gantt chart for the project;

iv. Network diagram that indicates the critical path for the project;

v. Levelled Resource Allocations.

Format

1. Reports MUST have a cover sheet including your name, student number, name of the project chosen and the total word counts;

2. A maximum of 1500 words are allowed (+ cover sheet, references and other necessary pages);

3. The report needs to be submitted inMSWord format; and

4. The project schedule needs to be submitted in MS Project format.
