Assignment
There has been much debate on the degree to which enslaved people experienced private lives and developed culture on their own terms. Your textbook and The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass include information that provides a window into the lifeways of enslaved people.
Write an essay that makes an argument about the family life and culture of enslaved people as presented in The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass compared to what you've learned from reading the course textbook. Your submission must adhere to the guidelines below:
1. Your essay must be a minimum of 500 words.
2. You should NOT include any material from the internet! American Promise, The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, and your thoughts are the only tools you need to complete this assignment. If any of your essay is found to contain material from other sources, you will receive a zero.
3. Your essay should include an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Your argument, or thesis statement, must be stated in your introduction. Two citations from American Promise must be included in each of your two body paragraphs. (Remember to avoid long quotations on short writing assignments like this.) There should be no citations in your introduction or conclusion.
