Assessment Task : Stakeholder Analysis
When planning an event, considering the impact it will have on all stakeholders is essential. The purpose of this essay is to research the concept of stakeholder analysis and demonstrate your understanding of the concept by applying it to a real-life event. The Week 2 lecture and textbook reading from chapter 5 will help with this assignment.
Pick an event that excites you and you’ll invest more into this assignment – this is more about getting to know the intricacies of an event and using this knowledge to impress potential employers e.g., if you attended an interview to work on Future Music Festival and you can talk about the media networks, using the Big Day Out as a comparable event, this would impress. Feel free to be a little creative in your essay presentation e.g., use concept maps, images, network pathways to visually demonstrate the links between stakeholders and express them as figures in your essay.
Unit learning outcomes:
Discuss the cultural, economic, political and environmental issues associated with events.
NOTE: these issues are all attached to a particular stakeholder so think about why they’re a key stakeholderand how their involvement contributes to the event’s overallsuccess.
ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
Task
You are required to research and prepare an essay on the concept of a stakeholder analysis. The purpose of the essay is to demonstrate an understanding of the concept of a stakeholder analysis and how consideration of all stakeholders in event management is essential to the event’s success. Your essay should incorporate the following components:
1. ECU Cover sheet (not included in the word limit);
2. Table of content and Word count at the bottom of the page (not included in the word limit);
3. Definition of the term stakeholder (in this part use some academic references) → this topic will be covered in the Week 2 lecture;
4. Overview of the relationship between event management and stakeholders (in other words, why do we need to have an understanding of internal and external stakeholders attached to an event) (in this part use some academic references);
5. Examine the risks of not conducting a stakeholder analysis (in other words, what are the risks if we, as event organisers, do not bother liaising with stakeholders) (in this part use some academic/industry references);
6. A real-life event as an example to highlight the concept (this allows you to get excited about the assignment and demonstrate that you understand the concept of a stakeholder analysis as it’s applied to an event). For ease of flow, integrate your example throughout your essay, rather than having a separate paragraph at the end of the essay. Your example should integrate an explanation of the six stakeholder groups. Be critical, not just descriptive.
7. Reference list- with a minimum of 5 peer reviewed academic journal references and 3 industry references - IS required. Industry references could be sources such as Youtube video, interviews, reports, and your event website. APA referencing style is required. Your
textbook (chapter 5) should be one of academic references (not included in the word limit);
8. Appendix (examples of information that could be included in an appendix include figures/tables/charts/graphs, statistics, questionnaires, transcripts of interviews, pictures, maps, drawings, letters, specification or data sheets. There is no limit to what can be placed in the appendix providing it is relevant and reference is made to it in the essay) (not included in the word limit)
