Task Description - Presentation Scenario - You will prepare and deliver a seminar presentation reporting on the ideas and information in reading and listening texts which relate to the following seminar prompt:

It might seem pointless to define intelligence. After all, we have all heard this word hundreds of times and probably have a general understanding of its meaning. However, the concept of intelligence has been a widely debated topic among members of the psychology community for decades.

Prepare for a seminar on theories of intelligence by reviewing the major theories of intelligence since the 1920's and their criticisms. Consider the extent to which the theories have had effects on society.

The reading text will provide you with background information on the topic. As you read you should highlight and annotate the major ideas and important details that relate to the seminar prompt.

You will also listen to a lecture and a podcast. While you listen to both the lecture and the podcast you should make notes on them. The annotations and notes you make will not be assessed but will help you to plan what you will say in both parts of the presentation.

Presentation - Your presentation must be between 8-10 minutes in length and must consist of the following two parts:

1. A summary (40% of the total listening mark) of the major ideas and important details from the lecture that relate to the seminar prompt.

2. A synthesis (60% of the total listening mark) of the ideas and information from the reading text, lecture and podcast in which you:

Organise the information from the three sources into original and specific themes related to the seminar prompt.

Support these themes by selecting ideas and information from the three texts.

Show how these ideas and information are related to each other within each theme (e.g. how they extend / refute / restate / support each other).

Your presentation will be recorded for marking and moderation purposes. Ensure that examiners can see you and your slides when you are presenting.

If in-person presentation is not possible you will be asked to present via an online platform such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams.
