Activity Working Together:
Denny's is trying to rock with its All-Nighter program to compete with McDonald's and Wendy's in the late-night dining market. The storied family dining chain is changing its look and changing its menu. Some restaurants play rock music from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., and the wait staff dons jeans and T-shirts instead of black pants and collared shirts. The menu features sharable items like seasoned kettle chips, mini burgers, and Sweet Ride Nachos-tortilla chips smothered in cinnamon sugar, fruit, hot fudge, and whipped cream-to further appeal to a younger crowd. The party scene is pumped up by alternative rock bands who are paid to appear.
For Denny's, it was a no-brainer to choose a makeover to attract late-night customers. About two thirds of its late-night customers are male and under the age of 24. The majority of these clients do not come by after work. They are coming from bowling alleys or nightclubs. The party gets longer when you go to Denny's.
Denny's has enlisted the assistance of a number of rock bands to help it create late-night snacks, which has added to the party scene. Bacon Cheeseburger Fries, which are fries topped with beef, cheese, bacon, and onions, was the idea of one band. A rock music blog is also featured on a brand-new Denny's website. The site encourages people to vote for the rock band that the food chain should adopt by providing it with free food while the band is on tour.
Your task: As a Denny's marketing director, you have been asked to investigate the success of Denny's All-Nighter program to see whether it should be expanded to the entire Southwest region of the United States of America. The vice president asks you to take on this task alone because it is more efficient and cost effective. Although you are flattered by the offer, you think the task should be tackled by a team of managers. What arguments could you bring to your boss to convince him that a team would be better for this task than a single individual? Prepare a report that proves and convinces the marketing vice president that a team should tackle this task.
