Assessment 1 - Presentation

Detailed Information This assessment is a group task and builds on the learning developed through the readings from weeks 3, 4 and 5. Students will be allocated to groups by the lecturer who will allocate a topic to each group at the beginning of the tutorial in Week 2.

To complete this assessment students must work in groups to:

1. Read the allocated reading for your group topic for in the lecture program.

2. Select one (1) additional journal article from the management literature using Google Scholar or the library academic journal databases.

3. Complete the Group Work Plan template for your group work. This Plan is submitted as part of your Assessment 2 submission.

4. Prepare a PowerPoint presentation based on the reading. The presentation must include:

  1. Title page slide.
  2. One (1) slide per group member summarising one or more elements of the reading (i.e. if there are 4 group members then 4 slides will be needed).
  3. Conclusion slide (outlining the implications of the finding for managers).
  4. References slide.

5. Record a verbal narration to accompany each slide of the presentation. Each team member must record the verbal narration for their individual slide.

6. One group member is to upload the presentation in Moodle in Assessment 3 space.

7. Please Note: the presentation must be completed using Microsoft PowerPoint as this is the ONLY presentation software that is compatible with Moodle viewing and upload. PowerPoint 2010 is available on all computers in the Faculty of Business Technology Hub in at Sydney campus. The computers in these labs have inbuilt microphones for recording of voiceover. Please check the computer labs timetable for available access times. The timetable is located adjacent to the computer labs.

8. Computer facilities with PowerPoint 2010 are available at Sydney campus Levels 9, 10 and in the library.

9. The file size for your presentation must be less than 200MB.

Assessment 2: Annotated Bibliography: Critical Analysis of Journal Articles.

Detailed Information

This assessment requires students to read and critique two journal articles about a selected topic from weeks 8 -10 of the lecture program. To complete this assessment students must:

• Download read and understand the Assessment 3 Rubric.
• Select a research topic from the lecture topics listed for weeks 8 to 10 of the lecture program.
• Read the academic journal article listed adjacent to the selected topic as outlined in the lecture program.
• Individually research the academic literature via Google Scholar or library journal databases and select and read a second academic journal on the selected topic that is not on the assigned list of readings or suggested as additional readings.
• Prepare a written critical analysis of both academic journal articles and submit it to Turnitin via the subject Moodle site.
• Please submit only a Word version ( .doc. or .docx) of your assignment to Turnitin. PDFs or other formats will not be marked.
• All in-text citations and references are to be written using the Harvard Referencing System. Make sure your reference list is formatted in alphabetical order of authors' last names.
• The report should be 1.5 line spaced and presented on A4 paper with margins of 2.5 cm. on all sides. Use Times New Roman 12-point font.

Notes:

2. All students in this subject should be aware that assessment tasks may be randomly audited for originality in addition to information provided in the Turnitin report. This may include requiring students to attend an interview to discuss their submissions with teaching staff prior to the release of assessment task and final subject grades.

3. The tutorial activities for this subject are designed to support students in developing the necessary skills to complete assessments.

Assessment 3: Business report

This assessment builds on student learning and work in previous assessments. More specifically, it builds on the work completed in Assessment 3 and the feedback received for Assessment 3. To complete this part of the assessment:

Case Study - Reviewing leadership styles overlaps and the need for a new ‘full-range' theory

• Download (from Moodle), read and understand the Assessment 4 Rubric.

• Download (from Moodle) read and understand the Assessment 4 Report Template.

• Individually research the academic literature via Google Scholar or library journal databases and select and read a two (2) additional academic journals on the selected topic that are not on the assigned list of readings or suggested as additional readings.

• Build on the written critical analysis completed in Assessment 3 by:

• critically analysing the 2 additional journal articles;

• comparing and contrasting the two (2) additional journal articles with those used in Assessment 3.

• Write the report on your selected topic and make specific recommendations to a manager about the practical implementation of what was discovered from the review of the literature on the selected topic.

• Write a reflection on (i) your key learnings from Assessments 3 and 4; and (ii) how you have incorporated feedback received from your lecturer for Assessment 3 into your final submission of Assessment 4.

• Submit the report to the subject Moodle site.
