Persuasive Speaking
Select a topic for your persuasive speech. It must be a topic that you know well and are comfortable talking about. Remember that a persuasive speech is made to convince or to move into action. Therefore, your topic must be something that your audience must decide over, like who to vote for an important position at your workplace, or an action that must be taken or be avoided to improve productivity. Once you have selected your topic, follow these guidelines to complete your work.
Your speech must include an introduction, development, and conclusion. You do not have to identify each part, but the elements included in these guidelines should be present in your speech.
Introduction: Introduce yourself and the topic you are presenting to the audience in a clear and engaging way. Include in your introduction a brief explanation of the purpose of your speech and the organizational pattern that will be used to convey your message. The organizational patterns can be found in chapter 14 of the textbook assigned in this module.
Development: Write your persuasive speech. Your speech should include a minimum of three paragraphs with 5 sentences each. The piece of writing must follow the organizational pattern selected and include all the elements required in a persuasive speech. Your paper must include citations and references of all the sources used to create your speech.
Conclusion: Finish your speech with a strong convincing statement. Include in your conclusion a brief explanation on how you established the primary means of persuasion: Speaker credibility (ETHOS), Evidence and Reasoning (LOGOS), Emotional Appeal (PATHOS). The primary means of persuasion can be found in Chapter 4 of the textbook assigned in this module.
