Report Instructions -
1. Objective of the report
Using data on schools from Michigan (MI), Indiana (IN), Illinois (IL) and Ohio (OH), develop a model for graduation rate that will help a university administrator who wants to improve their graduation rate. For example, if there is limited money to spend, would it be better spent on hiring more faculty, or trying to get better students from high school? Should the university limit the number of new students enrolled? Or increase expenditure per student (computer resources, scholarships, etc)?
2. Suggested Outline
I. Introduction (Statement of problem, brief description of data)
II. Methods (Description of statistical methodology)
III. Results (Competing models, interpretation)
IV. Conclusion (Final model(s), interpretation, recommendations for university administrator)
3. Aim for 5-15 double-spaced pages. DO NOT submit SAS printouts. You may include important plots in an appendix, or cut-and-paste plots and portions of the printout into the text itself.
4. Your report will be evaluated according to
(a) readability
i. did you clearly describe your statistical methods?
ii. did you clearly state your conclusions?
iii. did you clearly state your justifications?
iv. did you make good use of tables and plots?
(b) strength of conclusions
i. did you arrive at reasonable conclusions? (Some decisions are necessarily judgement calls - in these cases the justification is as important as the decision itself.)
ii. did you miss any important findings?
(c) statistical correctness
i. did you use appropriate tools and models?
ii. are you interpreting SAS output correctly?
(d) overall look (neatness, organization, professionalism).
