Problem
The purpose of this problem is to stimulate critical thinking on the role of fats in our eating pattern. If the inclusion of fats in our eating pattern are essential, why is the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines to Americans recommendation, is to limit the intake of saturated fat to less than 10% of calories per day starting at age 2?
Also, according to the Acceptable Macronutrient Distribution range for adults, the percentage for fat is 20-35% of total calories
I. Prepare a chart listing the at least ten types of fats in foods by category: Mono-saturated, Polyunsaturated and Saturated fat
II. Write a typical food recall (First meal, Second meal, Third meal and snacks) for one day.
1. A skipped meal(s) is/are prohibited.
III. Based on your typical food recall results for your one day of meals and snacks, indicate the types of fats which are consistently consumed and where applicable, an appropriate healthy and sensible substitutions.
