You are required to prepare a breakdown of the policy and planning elements in the prescribed real-life case study (See Instructions below).
This assessment will help you to identify the different roles and parties involved in planning and policy decisions.
By breaking down the different factors at play in the case study, you will also learn to separate different policy issues and areas such as political, social, environmental and regulatory.
The use of a real-life case study will also allow for a deeper understanding of the practical and theoretical implications of the !earnings in this subject.
Instructions -
You are to read the 2018 Overland article "A cable car named desire" by Miriam McGarry.
The article profiles the ongoing public debate in Hobart, Tasmania about the possible development of a Cable Car to take visitors from the city to the top of kunanyi/Mt Wellington. The article references multiple stakeholders and a variety of issues and perspectives related to the proposed development.
You are required to prepare a case study summary on the basis of the article. Your summary should identify the following information:
- An introduction which briefly summarises the case study in question.
- A stakeholder overview which identifies all of the stakeholders associated with the project and each one's perspective on the project.
- An overview of the planning and policy issues identified in the article including (but not limited to) political, social, environmental and regulatory factors.
As this is a real-life case study, you are welcome to conduct your own research to expand beyond the scope of the article and/or to clarify any points from the article. The final submission, however, should still be based primarily on the prescribed text.
Students are advised to base their submission on a report style format for this assessment. This may include subheadings and dot points.
Referencing should be done in the APA style, both in-text and in a reference list. References should include the prescribed Case Study text 'A cable car named desire" as well as a minimum of two additional references from academic (books & peer-reviewed journal articles) and other sources (newspaper article, trade publications, websites, etc). References to 'Wikipedia' or similar unsubstantiated sources will not be accepted.
