KTG Case Study

The KTG Case Study explores a situation where one member of the staff of a consulting company, Jane, wishes to influence another member of the staff, Bob, on the preparation of a bid for a major project. This case study is best considered in conjunction with your partner, if possible. One person should take the role of Jane and the other should take the role of Bob. Change the names to Jim and Robyn if you need to match them with your genders.

1 Read the Context and Background to the case study.

2 Read the perspective of either Jane or Bob, depending on the role that you are adopting initially.

3 Take some time to think about the influencing approach that will be effective in your interaction with the other person.

4 Meet with your partner, in the roles that you have adopted, and try to reach a mutually satisfactory outcome. If time permits, you may wish to have a second meeting with the roles reversed.

5 Reflect on the meeting(s) and consider what worked well and what, if anything, impeded the interactions.

6 Record what you have learned about influencing without authority from this case study and your role play with your partner in your online reflexive journal.
