Question

Mary Bailey is a 30-year-old gravida 3 para 2 Caucasian female at 16 weeks' gestation. On Thursday morning, during a visit to her prenatal clinic, her midwife identified persistent vomiting, weight loss, and signs and symptoms of dehydration. Mary was directly admitted to the inpatient unit with diagnoses of hyperemesis gravidarum and dehydration. IV fluids were started and lab draws were completed. The scenario takes place on Thursday at 1300, two hours after admission. During this scenario, students will have the opportunity to assess and implement nursing interventions for a pregnant patient experiencing persistent vomiting and fluid and electrolyte imbalance.
