Problem: Arsenate is very similar to phosphate both structurally and chemically.  Organic compounds of arsenate are less stable than analogous phosphate compounds.

Required:

Question 1: Predict the effect on the net reaction catalyzed by glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase if phosphate were replaced by arsenate.  

Question 2: What would be the consequence to an organism if arsenate (AsO4) were substituted for phosphate and explain why this compound is poisonous?
