Question
Clinical evaluation and assessment is essential in nursing education. In the clinical setting, the nurse educator can assess both psychomotor skills as well as affective skills. A clear expectation for the student as well as any clinical adjunct or preceptors is provided in the clinical evaluation tool.
Using the learning outcomes you developed in the previous module, develop a clinical assessment tool for meeting the chosen course objectives. In the title, provide the clinical area in which students are evaluated. Include:
1. Opportunities for both formative and summative evaluation.
2. Grading method: point scale, pass/fail, or satisfactory/unsatisfactory.
3. Use at least one objective in both the Affective and Psychomotor domains.
4. Behavior statements the students are expected to meet.
5. Determine how you want to grade the students. The tool must be clear and concise, both to the student and to the clinical instructor. Too lengthy of a tool becomes too difficult to evaluate. Remember to use the principles discussed in your readings, which includes the level which a student must reach in order to pass the clinical component.
