Journal writing is a common practice in an educational environment as it helps to promote critical and reflective thinking for students and the educators. The goal is to engage in a process of critical reflection with you on the way you are taught, the way your efforts has been evaluated and how you received feedback.
When writing this journal reflection, please know that what you say is totally confidential and you should write informally (i.e. use words like "I think", "I want", "I Know", etc.) and, not as if this is an essay that you will be marked for.
What is more, I assure you that nothing you say here will be taken personally and it will not play any role in your final grade, whether good or not so good. Needless to say, I grade your work and not your attitude or how much you like or dislike the way I run my classes.
Please take a few moments and answer a few questions to help me see things from your eyes.
What you write here will be your reflection on how the skills and theories within this course has so far helped you meet some of the benchmark statements of your diploma. It will also help me know which areas of my teaching needs improvements, in order to increase the learning abilities in my students.
Your reflection journal should address the following questions:
- Do you feel you have learned as much as you expected to in this class so far? Name a few of your most favourite topics and some you still don't get.
- What resources have you been using when working on your weekly assignments (faculty recording, Textbook, MyITLab, Microsoft training video, Linkedin or a Youtube video)?
- While learning, do you feel you made good use of all the resources that were made available to you in the course sites? In other words, do you feel you learned a great deal of new things about Excel? if not, what would you do differently in the next half of the semester to make sure you learn more (after the reading week)?
- If I was to ask you to suggest one thing that I can change in the way this course is delivered next semester (other than a face-to-face classroom), what will you tell me?
- How did you feel about the Mid-Term exam? What parts of it did you particularly like or dislike and why?
- What did you learn about yourself while doing this course for the last 6 weeks? In other words, name one thing you feel doing this course has improved in you.
