Research Poster
Purpose
As the culmination of your writing, research, and inquiry and as an alternative way to share your empirical research results, your final project tasks you with creating a research poster. Posters offer experts a channel through which discipline-specific knowledge can be shared and created. For your final exam, you will employ this method.
Objectives
This culminating project provides you with an opportunity to:
• Practice a new strategy for sharing your research with experts
• Summarize complex research in a concise, visually appealing manner
• Design a research poster
Directions
To successfully complete this project, you will need to:
1. Refer the instructions on how to create a research poster in your Try This OER e-textbook
2. Write the findings section of your research report
3. Visually represent your findings and the process that produced them
4. Organize the visuals on the poster
5. Supplement the visuals with small chunks of text, edited from your research report
Audience
The audience for this assignment consists of educated experts who are interested in your research but not familiar with your research. As you create your poster, approach the organization and design so that your poster could be displayed and shared at a conference-like setting that celebrates undergraduate research.
Format
The poster should be designed using presentation or software such as PowerPoint or InDesign, and its dimensions should be 22 inches tall by 28 inches wide.
Evaluation
Outstanding posters will:
• Visually organize information in a way that reflect the structure of the research report
• Demonstrate command of color and visual elements to capture viewers' attention
• Feature well-designed conventions typical to research posters, including a title, research questions, research methods, research findings, discussion, implications, and creative presentation.
