Hello everyone,

Powe overstretch means when someone Likes a person or political parties stretch their power beyond the normal limits and I think maximum people faced this type of situation in their life, and it can be a negative or positive impact. In this discussion, I want to share my experience when I face the same situation as Power overstretch.

well, In the year 2019, I was working in the Grap Fam market, actually, everyone was very nice nature, but for the few months ou manger had to go his home country for the 3 months, and our manager gave his position to his son, then his son came to the store and start working, he behaved very differently, I think he thought he has full power whatever he wants to do, basically he doesn't have knowledge about the business but still, our manager gave his position to his son even when our manger knew that supervisor is perfect for this, so his son behave aggressively, every worker is frustrated from him. one day he fought with me and abused me, that time I realized that he had power and I could not do anything otherwise he will fire me. After that, I believed his son used the wrong power and I believe the manager should also think about this.

I believe a person only uses his power or stretch his power when they know he or she is perfect for this position. in my situation, if the supervisor uses his power then it can understand because he has knowledge and experience better than us. So, the impact of overstretching power can be negative or positive.

Power overstretch means exceeding the power limits. Jeff Janaro writes in his article, "Yale historian Paul Kennedy defines imperial overstretch as the overextension either geographically, economically, or militarily that inevitably leads to the exhaustion of vital domestic resources, decline, and fall"(Janaro, 2014).
One example of power overstretches happened at my workplace. One highly qualified director was given the responsibility of two other departments when their directors retired, and the organization was having a hard time finding a suitable candidate. This resulted in a disaster as that director who was very productive and had been great with one department was overworked. Due to that, some decisions, especially at the beginning of the pandemic, went very wrong. The management then realized and reduced his responsibilities to one department and hired acting directors for the other two departments.

Hello Professor and Class,
To my understanding of this topic, power overstretch seems to be the results of expansion of power that stretched over into another's strengths or capabilities. In other words, the power of one's abilities has been exceeded.

I believe this example would be a good description of power overstretch. Back in September 2019, we had a good who decided to leave the company for a better opportunity. Although she did give two weeks' notice, the company failed to do the hiring process quick enough, so they decided to use another employee who had the knowledge to complete the position along with his own. Since I have taken over the position full-time, for the first few months, the power that was once given to the employee overstretches to make sure the duties are being completed, acting as a boss.
The professor posted an article. "Imperial overstretch, when an empire extends itself to such a state as to be unable to sustain its commitments." (Ng, 2020). While the article clarifies many aspects of this topic, it is clear that china does want to replace the US, but if China has strategy to possibly draw the US into an imperial power overstretch.
