Question

Power is defined as the ability to affect the outcome of events or guide the conduct of others (Yoder-Wise, 2019). Michelle Obama, a public person, meets this characteristic. She is an author, lawyer, and former First Lady. She teaches and motivates young women throughout the world. Her self-confidence, the way she graciously handles others, and her speech are all important aspects of her powerful image. When I think of a strong nurse, I instantly recall my preceptor MaryAnn as my first ever nursing position. She was friendly and self-confident. This was clear in the way she handled people. When individuals attempted to take advantage of her, she would set firm limits in a courteous manner. If a patient abused her, she would gently defend herself. If a patient had any concerns about their therapy, she would kindly answer them and ensure that they understood. When I had a question regarding a patient or therapy, she never made me feel like a nuisance, and she always complimented me when I performed well. As nurses, we have a certain level of control over our patients since we influence and urge them to better their health (Yoder-Wise,2019). Nurses who arrive at work with wrinkled scrubs or their hair pushed up hastily do not project a strong image. A nurse's self-image can impact how others see them. If we showed up disheveled, we would most likely make a bad first impression. Research indicates that clothing is a significant factor in first impressions and initial assessments of an individual (Sotak et al., 2023).
