An important factor in many biochemical cell processes is thepotential difference across a cell membrane. The inside of a cellis at a lower electric potential than the outside, with a potentialdifference of 0.080 V between them. The membrane consists oftwo layers of chainlike lipid molecules packed together like theblades of grass in a lawn, but it is only 7.5 nm thick. Whatis the strength of the electric field inside the membrane?
