A patient with a suspected oxycodone overdose arrives at the emergency department (ED) unresponsive. According to the patient's girlfriend, the patient had taken a larger-than- usual dose of oxycodone about an hour before arrival. The girlfriend reports driving around town with the patient and noticing that he was unresponsive in the passenger seat about 20 minutes after taking the large dose of oxycodone. The patient has a history of drug misuse following a car accident 5 years ago that resulted in chronic pain management. Naloxone is ordered and administered to the patient.
