"The nurse caring for Ms. Doe alerts both the surgeon and anesthesiologist that she appears to be in pain and is combative. Her preoperative check is completed quickly, and she is provided with IV pain medication and a benzodiazepine for her anxiety. Her daughter is brought to her bedside to provide support while she waits to enter the OR. Soon after, Ms. Doe is transported into the OR and transferred to the OR bed. Her daughter is escorted to the waiting area and is told she will be updated on a regular basis. After proper positioning and safety checks are completed, the time-out is performed and surgery is started. Ms. Doe has her appendix removed without complication.
