Topic - Camera trapping for assessing mammal population in woodlands
Poster on new methods/technologies.
The purpose of the poster is to provide sufficient information for a senior manager in an environment or conservation agency to take a decision on whether their organisation should invest large scale in new approaches to environmental monitoring and data collection using a new specified technique. The intention is to use a poster format to convey the information in a graphical, creative and memorable way. If you wish to explore this from a specific perspective (e.g. country or region, problem, habitat) that is fine provided you make this clear. Please bear in mind that the intended reader is someone familiar with conventional approaches and who is receptive to the use of a new way of doing things if they can be convinced that it offers genuine net advantages. Overly technical jargon should be avoided or suitably explained.
There will be a list to sign up to the technology/approach on which you wish to focus. Your poster must deal with this ONE approach only. There will be a maximum of 9 slots available per option. Places will be first come - first served. The link for each topic will take you to one recently published recommended article to get you started.
Your poster MUST contain the following information
A one paragraph introduction, linked to a supporting diagram, explaining how the approach works in principle
An easily understood table comparing the strengths and weaknesses of the conventional approach currently in use and the new technology that is being considered.
One paragraph describing how and where this technology is being used for equivalent purposes in other parts of the world
One paragraph giving examples of some novel insights that have been yielded by this new technology, including links to a relevant figure. The example used should be exciting and persuasive
One paragraph summarizing the likely advances in the new technology over the next 5 years and giving recommendations.
References (maximum of 8). Presented in Harvard style and can be referred to in text by numbering (i.e. .... suggesting that assessments are valid3)
