Assignment
Your last project of the semester is a Stock Research Project. You have been given $10,000 to be used to purchase 5 publicly traded stocks.
Please follow the directions and the rubric under the Special Projects Module.
You will follow your chosen stocks for six (6) weeks. I realize 2 weeks have gone by, but you can get prices retroactively. Post the stock prices from October 31 to December 5 (only once per week is needed) on the Stock Project Spreadsheet I provided for you in the Module.
The stocks can be tracked online through various resources and posted to the spreadsheet. Yahoo.finance is probably one of the easiest resources to use.
The spreadsheet will do all the calculations for you with a summary at the end.
Use the AACC Library Business Databases to find information on your respective companies. Remember, we have an embeded librarian who is willing to answer any questions.
This project has three components.
1. A one page written portion on each of your companies. This includes:
• Company Name and Stock Ticker Symbol
• The business of the company-the industry sector and the products or services the company produces or provides
• The company history-when the company began and its growth (Keep this short. Three or four sentences at most. It can include information on owners and founders of the business.)
• The company's present financial condition which should include an Income Analysis (its financial condition with INCLUDING its Price/Earnings Ratio)
2. The stock price tracking on the spreadsheet for each of your companies. This includes:
• Stock Symbol
• Date
• Original stock price at purchase. (Adding all five stocks' beginning prices should total $10,000. There will be only one price for each stock in this column. ) (Column C)
• Stock price at day's close
• All the rest of the work is done for you on this spreadsheet.
3. A one-paragraph opinion on each of your companies. This includes:
• Whether or not you think each stock would be a good investment at the present time. This is not only based on whether you gained money over three weeks but on what you have learned about the companies. Explain why or why not for each stock. (Keep this short.)
