Assessment Description
Reading/Literacy specialists are often called upon to lead professional learning experiences with the goal of helping teachers utilize data to make evidence-based instructional decisions. Through these professional learning experiences, reading/literacy specialists are in a unique position to foster a schoolwide positive climate that supports literacy learning and an environment where literacy is at the forefront.
Part 1
Provide an in-depth plan for a professional development session on "Integrating Literacy Across Content Areas"
Include the following:
- Agenda or schedule for the session.
- Explanation of how the topic of the session connects to local, state, or national policy.
- Justification for participants explaining how the professional development will positively support a literacy-rich learning environment.
- At least one engaging, collaborative activity that meets the needs of diverse adult learners to assist teachers in data-based instructional decision-making.
Part 2
Develop a professional development feedback form to determine the efficacy of the session. This form should encourage attendees to offer areas of strength and areas of improvement.
Part 3
Write a reflection that addresses the following:
- How did your knowledge of adult learning affect your research and planning for the professional development session?
- How has your perspective on adult learning or professional leadership changed based on your research and planning for the professional development session?
- How does the research you conducted and knowledge you acquired on the selected professional development topic allow you to influence local, state, or national policy decisions?
- How will you apply the feedback from participants to refine your leadership skills and improve your ability to communicate important information to teachers and other staff?
