Ethical leadership is shown to have a positive impact on psychological empowerment of nurses (Beiranvand et al., 2021). Nurses shared they had raised these concerns with previous leaders with no action being done. I have always lived by, "it is not what you know but when did you know it and what did you do about it". Once I had this information, I shared it with my manager and told her my plan of reporting. We discussed pros and cons and I decided to report. The strategy of setting an ethical standard is very important to me and served me well in this circumstance. My manager, the CNO, prepared the head of the medical staff of the situation. He was very supportive, and the report led to sanctions and immediate changes in behavior. At the time, I didn't know the courage it needed to move forward, but evaluating the situation now, it took a lot of risks.
