Problem: As a manager in your organization, you are also an agent. For example, if you were a customer service manager, you could increase future repeat sales and customer loyalty by providing outstanding customer service. These efforts, in turn, would increase earnings and, ultimately, shareholder wealth. Furthermore, managers who exercise social responsibility, ethical behaviors, and community service are well-respected corporate citizens who are recognized in the community and can attract future investors.

To prepare for this Discussion, recognize that you are an agent of change in your organization for both internal and external constituencies, and examine how you would act as an agent of change for your organization in order to contribute to firm value and maintain appropriate agent-principal relationships.
