Assignment report
TASK 1 - PURPOSE OF THE ASSESSMENT
This purpose of this task is to enhance and assess the level of knowledge of students concerning adopting Building Information Modelling (BIM) on construction projects. This task intends to enhance students' knowledge on BIM, and their capability to plan, identify and estimate the resources and requirements for the adoption of BIM on real-life projects.
This assessment task addresses the following unit learning outcomes for this unit:
LO1: Identify and explain current information management systems available for construction projects.
LO2: Demonstrate the ability to create, collate, analyse, store and disseminate information for construction projects using appropriate tools.
LO4: Demonstrate an understanding of principles of effective verbal, written and graphic communication applied in the construction industry.
REQUIREMENTS
Your tasks entail preparing a report for a large-sized construction project in order to assist a contractor in decision-making on adopting BIM on the project. It is expected that you include items below in your report. Each section should have a heading (to find more on how to write a good report, please refer to the provided information and links on Moodle).
1. Explain and define BIM and its concepts using ‘BIM' key terms in your own language:
2. Explain both the positive and negative aspects of implementing BIM
3. Identify the standards, guidelines and documents that can assist you in delivering a BIM project (please focus on Australian documents), and a brief description of each one.
4. Identify some of the tools used and what they are used for
5. Justify how implementing BIM can benefit in delivering a large size project and the tools you would use.
