Lou is a 45-year-old married father of two. He decided to go back to school 10 years ago when his position at a local business was eliminated. Initially, he thought that becoming a nurse would allow him to maintain his lifestyle and support his family. His first position was as an emergency room nurse at an inner-city hospital, where he often worked overtime and lasted 6 months before he started feeling burnout. He experienced other units that he thought would be more conducive to his lifestyle before settling on his present position in the CICU.
