At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, Americans stocked up on goods that they thought might experience shortages. The one product that everyone seemed to buy was toilet paper. A mathematician did a quick calculation and concluded that the average household would have more than 30 rolls of toilet paper on hand. To test the claim, a random sample of households was polled and asked to report their inventory.
