To find the 95% confidence interval on the population proportion.

During June 6-9, 2008 a poll was conducted for NBC News and the Wall Street Journal in which 1,000 likely voters were asked questions on a range of issues facing America. One question and its results are given below.

In thinking about the next president that we'll be electing, which of the following two statements comes closer to your point of view? (IF "BOTH," ASK :) I understand that you feel that they are both important, but if you had to choose the ONE statement that come closer to your point of view. Which would you choose?

Statement A: This is a time to have a president who will focus on progress and help move America forward.

Statement B: This is a time to have a president who will focus on protecting what has made America great.

6/08+ 3/08+ 11/07+

Statement A/focus on progress/moving forward 59 57 50 [169]
Statement B/focus on protecting what has made America great 37 39 46

Not sure 4 4 4
