After reviewing this week's lecture and readings, answer both of the following:

1. In what ways do political conditions influence criminal justice agencies? Provide examples in your discussion.

2. In his article, Walker states, "The essence of proposition 1 is that police researchers have responded to issues raised by the external environment. And as proposition 4 asserts, the external world has, in some important respects, responded to the findings of police research." Walker's proposition 4 is perhaps easier to achieve within the research realm. Do you think the same can be said about proposition 4 for the policing profession? In other words, politics inevitably influences policing, but do you believe that the police have influence over their external environment? Can the police control or impact either the formal or informal political environment?
