Question

Police suspected John Smith of a string of home burglaries. Police developed a DNA profile of the culprit from drops of blood shed near a broken window at one house. Police follow John on the street, and when he throws out a disposable water bottle, they fetch it from the trash and take it to the lab for DNA analysis. Technicians extract DNA from the bottle that matches the profile from the blood, and John is arrested. How can John challenge the investigation, and will he be successful?
