Bitcoin and Ethereum are crypto currencies that have attracted considerable attention in the press however many people identify them by their distributed ledgers on a peer-to-peer network - better known as the Blockchain.
Blockchain enjoyed considerable hype, substantial speculation and ample excited articles in the press however, there seems to have been a period of relative quiet.
Please review the two articles about Blockchain:
Gartner, (2019, October 8). Gartner 2019 Hype Cycle Shows Most Blockchain Technologies Are Still Five to 10 Years Away From Transformational Impact.
Higginson, M. Nadeau, M. & Rajgopal, K. (2019, January). Blockchain's Occam Problem. McKinsey and Co.
When looking at the points of view expressed in these articles do you believe they arrive at a similar conclusion even though they come from different perspectives? What do you consider to be their points of agreement and points of difference?
* You will see that the McKinsey article speaks of an ‘Occam Problem'. Occam was a monk in the 14th Century who philosophised on many problems, but who preferred simplicity in problem solving. His method became so well known that it became known as ‘Occam's razor' for the way it cut out unnecessary complexity. One of the challenges with Blockchain is that many perceive there to be easier and simpler solutions for managing ledgers.
