Synchronous buck converter setup and measurements Setup:

1. Before making any connection, make sure the kit is Power OFF.

2. Make the wiring as shown in Fig. 5 (with Lf = 1.2 mH).

3. Connect 60 Ω resistor as a load.

4. Connect 30 V DC Supply, make sure that the DC supply is initially set to 0 V.

5. Connect the Kit, XDS100V2 USB JTAG Emulator, and the host computer, with one end of the JTAG Emulator connected to J109 connector on the control board of the Kit and the other end connected to a USB port on the host computer. Note that the Kit must be Powered OFF, before connecting or disconnecting the JTAG Emulator.

6. Connect the USB RS485 adapter between the Kit and the host computer, with the communication end of the USB RS485 adapter connected to Pin 14/15 of Connector J5 on the control board and the USB end connected to the host computer.

7. Follow the wiring diagram as shown in Fig. 5 and check it finally with the lab tutor before any power ON.

8. Power ON the Kit through the 3-pin standard AC power cord with a single-phase 240 Vrms, 50 Hz source.

9. Open Matlab/Simulink code "BuckConverter_Synchronous_2019.slx".

10. Press "Ctrl+B" on the keyboard to download the software code to the Kit.

11. Power OFF the Kit.

12. Disconnect the XDS100V2 USB JTAG Emulator.

13. Power ON the Kit through the 3-pin standard AC power cord with a single-phase 240 Vrms, 50 Hz source.

14. Open Matlab/Simulink file "Host_RS485_Communication_2019b.slx". Press "Ctrl+T" on the keyboard to RUN.

15. Power ON the DC source. Then gradually increase the input DC supply voltage to 22 V and just turn on the external switch to connect the DC source.

16. Continue measurement and save waveforms and parameters, and observe the findings.

Measurement and Analysis:

Question 1: Measure the voltage across the inductor at D = 0.5, current through the inductor. Save waveforms. Note down the parameters used, e.g. D, Vin, Vo, fs, load etc.

Question 2: Change the inductor (Lf) to (1.2/2) mH and repeat Step 1. Save waveforms. Note down the parameters used, e.g. D, Vin, Vo, fs, load etc. Use L1 and L2 from the board (NOT L3!).

Question 3: Discuss what difference you found in Step 1 and Step 2 measurements? Why is it so? Explain.

Question 4: Measure the output voltage at duty cycle 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7 and plot the characteristic curve. No need to record the oscilloscope waveform.

Question 5: Discuss what difference you found in Step 2 of asynchronous buck converter measurement and Step 2 of synchronous buck converter measurements? Why is it so? Explain.
