Rockwall ISD Board: Bailey vs. Watts

Jon Bailey, Republican, is 41 years old and has lived in Rockwall all his life. He attended RISD from kindergarten through 12th grade. After graduating in 1992, he attended Texas A&M University in Commerce where he received a BBA in Marketing. He is the Director for Sales and Marketing for Trend HR in Rockwall. He has served as a board member of Rockwall ISD Education Foundation, Rockwall ISD Community Ambassador, and as a Rockwall ISD Mentor to at risk children. His wife is a 4th grade teacher in RISD and he has two children who also attend RISD elementary. He would like to focus on strengthening and improving the current curriculum in math, science, fine arts, and technology. It is important to him to stay within a balanced budget and he would like to look for ways to increase revenue without going to the taxpayers with a proposed tax hike.

Bill Watts, Republican, is 74 years old and has lived in Rockwall since 2003. He received a teaching degree from University of Texas at El Paso, a Master's Degree in School Counseling, and a Master's Degree in Professional Counseling from Amberton University in Garland. He is the General Manager of a roofing company. He has experience as a school board member for the El Paso ISD. He would like to see a return to a more traditional curriculum that focuses on phonics, reading, spelling, and grammar. He would also like to find a way to allow there to be a librarian at every Rockwall ISD campus.

If the elections were held today, I would vote for Jon Bailey. I feel that he has a vested interest in Rockwall ISD because his wife is a school teacher there and he has two children that are currently attending RISD. Having grown up in the community all his life, he has more connections to and personal history with Rockwall. He cares about the city, as evidenced by his involvement in the community. I also like the fact that he feels the curriculum needs to be improved in math, science, fine arts and technology as those are the areas that America as a whole falls behind in as compared to other countries. I feel that it would be in his own best interest to make the school system the best that it can be.
