Touchstone Tasks are required assignments that give you an opportunity to explore the course material and develop skills that you'll use throughout the course. Although this Touchstone Task is ungraded and you will not receive feedback, the work required here will prepare you for success on any graded Touchstone(s). You can work on a Touchstone Task anytime, but you must complete the previous assessments in this Unit before you can submit it. Once you've submitted a Touchstone Task, it will be saved for you to access at any point during the course.
Touchstone Task 1: Planning a Network Infrastructure
ASSIGNMENT: The Touchstone Tasks in this course will help you prepare for the final Touchstone, which you will submit at the end of Unit 4. A Touchstone is a project that demonstrates your comprehension of the course material. It will help you refine skills, and demonstrate application of knowledge. For your reference, there is more information about Touchstones in the student guide.
There are a total of five Touchstone Tasks throughout the course:
Touchstone Task 1: Planning a Network Infrastructure
Touchstone Task 2.1: Planning Network Printer Connectivity
Touchstone Task 2.2: Planning IP Address Assignments
Touchstone Task 3: Planning a Wireless Infrastructure
Touchstone Task 4: Planning Network Security Measures
In this first Touchstone Task, you will familiarize yourself with the scenario that will carry through in each Touchstone Task to the final Touchstone assignment. Using that information, you will begin planning the network's overall hardware architecture and operating system needs. Many of the other decisions in later Touchstone Preparation activities will depend on making the right choices here, so think carefully as you answer each question.
