Purpose of this assignment

This assignment will give learners the opportunity to investigate an aspect of a hospitality business. The project will be an area ofinterest to learners, so that they benefit from the work carried out. The project will need to last for at leasttwo weeks, which will allow learners to develop their planning and monitoring skills. Learners will develop and show skills in research, analysis, verbal and written communication, information technology and presentation.

Scenario

You are a new young hospitality industry professional and your manager has offered you to take part in the open competition in order to get financial support from the European fund and to implement a project in the hospitality industry. In order to be successful with your application, you need to produce a project plan the will consist of the following:

Q1. Identify opportunities for a hospitality project
Q2. Plan and research the hospitality project
Q3. Carry out and monitor the hospitality project
Q4. Present the hospitality project to an audience

Task 1- Identify opportunities for a hospitality project (P1); Plan and research a hospitality project, including the skills needed to carry out the project (P2); Carry out and monitor the hospitality project

You should identify opportunities for an industry-related project in the hospitality industry.

You should identify a minimum of three ideas, which could be closely related or quite diverse. You then need to agree with your tutor / scientific advisor which idea will be developed as the project. This needs to be decided at a very early stage.

For P2, you need to produce evidence of planning and researching the chosen project, including identifying the skills required to carry it out. At pass level, it is expected that you will need some guidance from the tutor / scientific advisor- identifying where you can get information for background research. Research requirementswill largely depend on the nature of the project, but could include the internet, textbooks, journals, interviewing employers, questionnaires, surveys etc.

For M1 you need to demonstrate high levels of skills in terms of both research and planning, and with minimal guidance from tutors, should independently identify thebest way to plan theproject.

For P3, you need to produce a project plan - how you will meet the timescales?

You need to make sure the the activities are covered, and the carrying out and monitoring must be acceptable to the standards.

Task 2- P4 present the hospitality projectto an audience.

After you have finalised your project plan, you need to present it - in the form of a presentation on the project delivered by you to an audience. The presentation needs to be delivered in an appropriate format.

All of the key elements listedin the project plan should be included.

For D1, you need to evaluate the project and your presentation skills and suggest improvements.

Examples of improvements might be: work-related skills that you need in order to perform more effectively; better research skills; different ways you could have approached the project; and improvements to your presentation skills, such as better visual aids, slower delivery or better rehearsing.
