Purpose of the assessment
This assignment assesses the following Unit Learning Outcomes; students should be able to demonstrate their achievements in them.
d) Apply human usability in systems and documentation within the context of constantly changing modern industry requirements.
e) Plan and implement various application servers for an organization.
Description:
This assignment is to be discussed every week about half-an-hour during lab hours with the tutors. Students are required to configure the server using Windows Server 2012 by following all the requirements specified in the Scenario. A user documentation report has to be submitted on Moodle, which should contain the important steps of the configuration with respective screenshots and troubleshoots. The user documentation report should take into account the characteristics of the users it is meant for (as an example, documentation required by system administrators can be very different from that required by end users). Also, there will be student demonstrations for the whole scenario in week 11 lab class. The presence of all group members is mandatory.
Scenario
Implement Windows Server Active Directory Domain Services (ADDS) infrastructure.
ACTE Pty Ltd is a SME (Small to Medium Enterprise) based in Sydney. The company is a new start-up specialises in designing and manufacturing widgets. The company has 60 employees at their new Head Office in Sydney. The company decided to setup a LAN infrastructure environment with Centralised authentication and resources (object) management. They organisation structure is based on different departments named Sales, HR, Operation, Finance and Marketing. The company hire you as System Administrator, and your job is to create a LAN infrastructure design and provide a solution to manage objects (such as users, computers, file shares, printer's apps, groups etc.) belongs to each department.
Your Task:
• Design a LAN Infrastructure for 60 users and determine the feasibility in your design for number of (Servers, Clients computers, Printers, Routers and Switches).
• Configure a DHCP to acquire automatic IP address.
• Create ACTE Domain a new forest and centralized user authentication.
• Create OUs and Groups based on department name and create two users for each department
• Create folders for each department and set the sharing privileges only corresponding department users can access the share files.
• Configure two Group policies e.g. Disable Guest Account and Set Minimum Password Length to Higher Limits 12 Characters
• Install and configure IIS web services.
Submission Guideline:
Your assignment should be completed according to the General Guidelines for Presentation of Academic Work.
1. Write a report by following a standard user documentation report template on the above case study, which should include the following:
a) A short introduction
b) Design of the Network diagram (any software can be used such as Visio, Draw.io and Netsim etc.)
c) Configuration of the whole project.
d) Proper labelled Screenshots from implementation.
e) Any extra feature that you have added in your project or any difficulties you faced during your project, if any.
2. Documentation should follow the standard submission guidelines as follow:
a) Front page - indicating your Group members' names and student IDs, teaching staff (Lecturer's and tutor's name), a statement of what has been completed and acknowledgement of the names of all assisted you.
b) List of references used (IEEE style) - Reference sources must be cited in the text of the report and listed appropriately at the end in a reference list. Only IEEE referencing style is acceptable for this assignment.
3. The assignment must be submitted using Moodle only. The page numbers of the assignment must be clear on each page. The report document must be checked for similarity through Moodle/Turnitin while submitting it. Please refer to study skills unit staff if need further assistance. Please note that only one member per group should submit the report.
4. 15 minutes per demonstration in Lab, which will cover all the features mentioned within the scope of the given case study. All the group members will have to demonstrate. If any member of the group fails to demonstrate, he/she will lose the demonstration marks.
