For mortgages and credit cards -- consumers also have responsibility not to take on obligations that they cannot afford; however, are the rules/repercussions sometimes too complicated and difficult to understand, so that it is unfair to place blame on the consumer? Or should we expect consumers to do sufficient research so that they understand all of the obligations?
