At the beginning of the compression stroke, the volume of a certain diesel engine cylinder is 1.000 liter and it is filled with air at 300 K and 100 kPa absolute. At the end of the compression stroke the air is at 800 K and 4280 kPa absolute.

What is the work done by the piston on the air during the compression stroke?

(Heat transfer to the cylinder walls may be neglected, and specific heat of air may be considered constant at the initial condition value.)
