Question

The ITDS is providing services to Johnny, a 22 month old with Down syndrome. She has been working with Johnny for almost a year as the Primary Service Provider on activities related to cognitive delay. A physical therapist and an occupational therapist are serving on the team as consultants for motor skills. Nutritional and cardiac problems have not been an issue. Johnny has been making progress. At the last home visit, Mother asked for additional services while expressing concerns that 'Johnny is just not catching up to his age level'. What should the ITDS recommend as a Plan of Care based on general knowledge of Down syndrome and other information given here? Discuss specifically what Mother means by 'not catching up' and then address the concern by eliciting priorities. Review daily and weekly activities regarding opportunities for Johnny to integrate learning activities into listed family activities. Explain to Mother that Johnny is making progress on his individual timeline, however, you will consult with the team and plan a co-visit to discuss new priorities and strategies. all of the above.
